MINOT – The town’s Recreation Committee pulled together a range of town resources – volunteer labor, donated trucks and heavy equipment, food and fuel – for a community work day on Sept. 10 that succeeded in building some 1,500 feet of road from Shaw Hill Road, next to the Minot Consolidated School, to access 25 acres of land recently cleared as the site for future sports fields.

The goal was to take the road down the hill and across a low area so that work on the future fields can begin in earnest.

In less than 10 hours 2,000 cubic yards of material had been transformed into a road that cleared the culvert – also installed with headwalls and an outlet apron during the day – and ended near the center of the field complex.

Stumps had also been removed from about three acres of land and, now that access to the field area has been established, work continues to prepare the land for fields.

Jon Pratt and Candace Benwitz coordinated the ground work and Lisa Cesare, Belinda Dubois and Lisa Novicki were responsible for the food.

Volunteer laborers included Statia Ackerman, Stephanie Ackerman, Paul Bedard, Dan Callahan, Dean Campbell, Sharon Campbell, Jim Cesare, Sawyer Cesare, John Courteau, Hope Dubois, Jacob Dubois, Mike Dubois, Earl Futch, Matt Futch, Marc Geoffroy, Dan Gilpatric, Mike Hemond, Faith Ide, Kayla Ide, Melanie Ide, Walt Mosher, Dwight Nichols, Rick Nichols, Ben Pratt, Josh Pratt, Matt Sheloske, Jason Simard, Kurtis Simard, Madison Simard, Wendy Simard, Pam Snowe, Tom Snowe, Mike Thoits and Chris Willer.

Helping with the food were Statia Ackerman, Tim Bernard, Violet Bernard, Sue Callahan, Cathy Emery, Tammy Futch, Sandra Haley, Bev Hemond, Tom Kelly, Tina Lajoie, Tina Love, Minot-Hebron Athletic Association, Stephanie Negron, Kristen Nichols, Flora Poulin, Wendy Simard, Melanie Sparks-Ide, Carey Woods and Julie Zink.
