In a Sept. 29 story, Paul Madore of Lewiston, who is opposed to Maine’s gay rights law, was quoting from a Vatican advisory when he said discrimination against homosexuals is not only “licit, it is obligatory.” The Catholic advisory states that while homosexuals have the same rights as all people, limiting those rights in certain instances, such as when placing children for adoption and foster care or employment of teachers, is “sometimes not only licit but obligatory.”
