NORWAY – Members and friends of the Western Foothills Land Trust took in the autumn colors on foot and from canoes this fall.
Members spent a fall morning with Harriet and David Rudd of Sumner, walking their pastures and woodlands, on Sept. 17. The Rudds have protected 180 acres of the historic Asia Keene farm with a conservation easement held by the trust.
The walk was the first opportunity for the public to explore the land. It began in the farm’s western fields and meandered into the woodlands, which abut the east branch of the Nezinscot River. Upon returning to the historic home, a lunch prepared by Harriet was shared.
Marshall Pond in Hebron was the focus of an outing on Oct. 2. A flotilla of kayaks and canoes assembled at the dam and headed out to travel the length of the pond and its feeder, noting geese and other waterfowl, and frogs on lily pads, along the way.
The trust is working with a landowner on a sizable conservation easement on the pond.
The next outdoor event will be the annual cross-country ski event in February. For information about the trust, call 739-2124.
