BINGHAM – In what proved to be an extremely hard fought battle, Greenville took the 1-0 win over Rangeley on penalty kicks in girls’ soccer playoff action in on Thursday.

The game was moved to Bingham due to snow-covered fields in both Rangeley and Greenville.

The two teams fought through regulation and two overtimes before moving on to a duel of penalty kicks. The last player to shoot, Alisha Gilbert, booted the ball into the upper lefthand corner just below the crossbar to end the contest in Greenvilles’ favor. Beth Bartley needed to make only eight saves to preserve the shutout.

Rangeley senior captain Abby Madeira held the team together defensively throughout the two-hour ordeal.

Krista Jamison was solid in net, stopping 26 of 28 shots for the Rangeley effort.
