LEWISTON – The Ayyoub Drummers, a New York City-based group of musicians and dancers, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in Chase Hall Lounge, 56 Campus Ave., on the Bates College campus.

The Ayyoub Drummers explore Arabic rhythms, folk songs and dances, fusing them with influences – the spoken word and grooves from hip-hop and Latino music – from their daily lives as urban immigrants.

The band also explores voice as an instrument, rather than as the focus of musical performance, and incorporates dance into its performances. The Ayyoub Drummers have performed at the Inwood Native American Festival and the World Music Institute’s Islamic World Festival at Symphony Space.

The performance, which is being presented by the Bates College Multicultural Center, is free and open to the public. For more information, people may call the Multicultural Center at 207-786-8376.
