WALTHAM, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington senior Adam Staier, of Farmington, came from way behind to soundly defeat New Hampshire’s Bob Keating in the recent East Region and New England One Hour Racewalk Championship. Staier completed 10,651 meters to Keating’s 10,527 meters.

Finishing third in the open division and first in the Junior division with an outstanding distance of 10,076 meters was Matthew Forgues, a 13-year-old walking sensation from Boothbay.

In the women’s race, Lisbon Falls racewalking standout Sara Adams walked away with both first place in the open and junior competition and a 10th-place finish overall with a distance of 8,677 meters.

Free symposium on ACL injuries

AUBURN – Central Maine Orthopaedics and HEALTHSOUTH Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center in Auburn are offering a free symposium on ACL injury prevention this Saturday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Guest speaker will be Holly Silvers, MPT from the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Research Foundation. She is a member of the USA Soccer Federation Men’s and Women’s Medical Team and has published several articles on ACL injuries. The symposium will be held at the HEALTHSOUTH office, 690 Minot Avenue, and is open to all area coaches, parents, and athletes, or anyone interested in injury prevention.
