PORTLAND – Gerard E. “Speedy” Buotte, 80, of Falmouth Street in Rumford, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 27, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Rumford on June 3, 1925, a son of the late Frank and Mary Anne (Peters) Buotte. He was educated in Rumford schools.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Mexico and St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church in Rumford.

He was disabled all of his life, and was employed as a custodian at Franklin Savings Bank and the Eagles Club. During the past five or six years, he was be remembered for speeding around in his electric wheelchair and his many trips to Dunkin’ Donuts to share coffee and good conversations with his many friends.

He was a 42-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he was an officer and served as outside guard for many years.

He enjoyed his many visits with his step-nephew, Sammy, who lived in the apartment upstairs.

He is survived by his sister, Anna May Buotte of West Paris; a brother, Nelson J. Buotte and wife, Virginia, of Farmington; a niece, Linda Robinson and husband, Ronald, of Lakeland, Fla.; a nephew, Michael Buotte of Connecticut; many cousins; and special friends, Lewis and Gloria Barnett, Jim Whittemore, Charlie Burt, Roseanne Ross and Cindy Sweetser.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Buotte and Celina Quigley; brother-in-law, Francis Quigley; and two brothers, Melvin and Fred Buotte.
