LIVERMORE FALLS – SAD 36 directors will hold a public forum Tuesday on three referendum questions voters will consider Nov. 8 pertaining to construction projects and a performing arts center.

Directors are seeking authorization to pursue state funding for structural, roof and sidewall renovations and two small additions to the high school.

If the state approves funding, another vote would be needed to allow directors to go forward with the project.

The construction projects are anticipated to cost $1.1 million with the state paying about 68.41 percent, and the district paying 31.59 percent over a 10-year bond.

However, the projects are not expected to cost taxpayers more money than they’re currently paying for debt service.

The district continues to make payments on the new elementary school in Livermore, which cost about $3.1 million in 1999. Those debt-service payments decrease each year and, instead of decreasing the debt-service payment, the district would use that money to cover the costs of the construction projects.

The public forum on the project begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Livermore Falls Middle School all-purpose room.

The anticipated cost of the roof and sidewall project at the high school is $722,500, which includes major internal classroom renovations. The school’s outside walls are not insulated and that would be during the project, which is expected to increase energy efficiency.

The district’s share of the project is estimated at $228,238 paid in 10 yearly bond payments of $22,823.78.

The two additions totaling 2,500 square feet with renovations are estimated to cost $387,500. Taxpayers would be responsible for paying $122,412 in 10 yearly payments of $12,241.

One addition of 1,250 square feet would help create a media center downstairs at the school. The addition would be added to the parking lot side of the school and be combined with the present office complex. The media center would be about 3,000 square feet total.

The existing media center on the second floor of the school would be divided to accommodate two classrooms for the growing number of students.

The second addition of 1,250 square feet would be built at the back of the school facing the football field. That space would house offices for principals, secretaries, guidance personnel and school nurse.

It would also be the new front entrance to the school.

The total space would be about 2,000 square feet using some of the current hall space adjacent to the gymnasium. In addition, the entry foyer would be renovated with new public restrooms for the gym area.

The last question on the Nov. 8 warrant seeks concept approval for pursuing funds for a performing arts center. In September, Superintendent Terry Despres was waiting for cost estimates on the project. Under the current formula, the district would receive about $620,000 in state funding for the project.
