NORWAY – Leora S. (Diz) Polland, 84, of Rabbit Valley Road, Oxford, died at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center on Sunday, Oct. 30.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1921, at Meadowview Farm in Derry Village, N.H., the daughter of Elmer and Leora (Gilman) Stratton. She was a graduate of Reading High School and Stroud Secretarial School, both in Reading, Mass.
She was an active member of the Old South Methodist Episcopal Church of Reading, Mass., and the Oxford, Maine, Extension.
She was employed in the offices of L.B. Evans Slipper Co. of Wakefield, Mass., Hannaford Bros., and Porteous, Mitchell and Braun, all of Portland. She was office manager at Nelson & Small Inc. in Auburn prior to her retirement.
During her lifetime, she owned two general stores, and enjoyed her flower gardens, hunting, fishing, camping and cooking.
She was very active in working with cancer patients, as she herself was a cancer survivor of 28 years.
Mrs. Polland was married to the late Hughe M. Polland of Oxford. Leora loved spending time with her family, especially with her two granddaughters, Shauna and Abby.
Mrs. Polland is survived by a daughter, Sally Korn and her husband, Joe; granddaughters, Shauna and Abby Korn of Oxford; a brother, Walter Stratton of Florida; stepchildren, Orville Polland of East Oxford, Janette Plummer of Raymond, and Jimmie Polland of Stockholm, Sweden. Also surviving are two foster daughters, Dorothy Mayberry of Waterford and Nancy Crooker of Scarborough; seven step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
