I was once again deeply saddened by the recent coverage of the trial for the murder of Morgan McDuffee. The loss to all involved is enormous.

For those who are interested in addressing violence in this and other communities, I would alert readers to the annual Morgan McDuffee Run, a 5K road race to benefit anti-violence education here and elsewhere. Next year, the run will be begin at 1 p.m. on April 9. The race begins on the Bates campus, at Alumni Gymnasium, and continues on a course that passes the site of Morgan’s death. The run gives local citizens a way to demonstrate their support for those who cared about Morgan, and to assist with efforts to prevent such violence in the future.
