Walk on Friday

RUMFORD – The Rumford Hospital Employee Activity Committee is sponsoring a Remembrance Walk from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, to benefit the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project in Nancy Smith’s memory.

No one is expected to raise money in order to walk, but there will be a donation box available in the parking lot prior to the walk for those who are able to make a donation to AWAP.

Walkers will gather in the parking lot by Swift River Health Care and walk down Lincoln Avenue to Penobscot Street, down Penobscot to St. Barnabas Church, up Plymouth to Franklin and return to Swift River. Walkers may bring a candle or flashlight.

Breakfast set

RUMFORD – The next Tres Dias prayer breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. Coffee will be provided. For more information, call 364-8083.

College talk

RUMFORD – A representative from Thomas College will visit Mountain Valley High School at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The representative will meet with students to discuss the school’s academic and sports programs and its residential life opportunities. For more information, visit www.thomas.edu.

Support canceled

Stop smoking

RUMFORD – The November sessions of the free smoking cessation program, sponsored by River Valley Healthy Communities, will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The four one-hour sessions will meet on Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Rumford Hospital Conference Room A.

Areas addressed will include reasons why people smoke, triggers and road blocks in the quitting process, methods to help people quit and ways to stay smoke-free. For more information or to sign up, call Stephanie at 364-7408.
