I am writing to encourage fair-minded voters not to discriminate against our gay citizens in the referendum on Election Day, Nov. 8.

I agree and support wholeheartedly the Rev. Michael Seavey’s courageous stand on behalf of the rights of these men and women.

As an Episcopal priest of some 58 years, I have known and counseled a number of persons considered to be homosexual and understand well the discrimination and abuse they have endured as a result of intolerance and, in some cases, bigotry. Tragically, I recall several suicides motivated by such mistreatment.

Those who oppose this legislation offered by Gov. Baldacci display not only their lack of understanding but their lack of Christian charity as well.

I support Rev. Seavey and am grateful for his candor and integrity. I will also vote to keep this legislation.

Rev. Gary K. Price, Wales
