FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Richard J. Gross, 75, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and formerly of Auburn, died on Oct. 17.
He was born in Arat, Pa., on Dec. 22, 1929, son of Roland and Olive Gilbert Gross. He was educated at St. Patrick’s School.
He was a Marine in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was employed at the G.R. Kinney shoe stores of Lewiston, transferred to Worcester, Mass., and Greenfield, Mass., as a manager.
He returned to Lewiston and worked for 25 years in trucking with Maliar Brothers, B& E Express, Starbird Express and Fox & Ginn, taking early retirement because of an injury.
He wintered with his wife in Florida for a few years, moving permanently there in 1996. He was also a member of Local 340.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, the former Theresa Marquis, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Auburn, whom he married on May 15, 1948; twin sons, David and wife, Linda, of Auburn, and Daniel of Jacksonville, Fla., and companion, Mary; two daughters, Brenda and husband, Dan Lapointe, of Auburn, and Melinda Youland and companion, Dan, of Turner; and three precious grandsons, Ira of Boston, Zackery of Auburn and Maxx, in the U.S. Air Force in Keesler, Miss.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Burton and Edward; and a sister, Connie Burch.
