RUMFORD – Jane R. “Jean” Quimby, 84, formerly of Burton Street in Mexico, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Rumford Community Home, following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Mexico on Jan. 27, 1921, a daughter of Alexander and Jane (Greig) Myles. Jean was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1940.

She was married to Charles W. Quimby Sr. on Jan. 25, 1941. He passed away on Sept. 8, 2001.

Jean was employed as a cafeteria aide for the Mexico school system for several years.

She was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church and their Ladies Aid Society, former member of the LeParesseux Snowshoe Club and the Scottish Clan.

Jean was very proud of her Scottish heritage and during her lifetime traveled with her family to Scotland several times.

She enjoyed knitting, camping, berry and apple picking, and shopping, but most of all cooking and caring for her family.

She is survived by a son, Charles W. Quimby Jr. and fiance, Dorothy Ouellette, of Mexico; five daughters, Sandra Welch and husband, Dick, of Rumford, Charlene Papsadora and husband, Bill, of Peru, Nancy Snowman of Norway, Susan Parent and husband, Lionel, of Rumford, and Ann Arsenault and husband, Michael, of Peru; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles W. Quimby Sr.; and two sisters, Margaret MacGregor and Jessie Parr.
