I am writing in reference to the letter from Jack Jalbert (Oct. 22). To answer his question as to whether the story should be news or an editorial, I belief that it should be news. I also think he needs to open his eyes and think about what he wrote.

He claims that one of those accused and I were “friends of many years, so it saddens me to come to this.” First of all, he does not even know me. Second, the accused and I had not spoken to one another since around March. I stopped talking to him because of the racial things he said toward me on the school bus.

Jalbert claims that the incident was a joke. If that was a joke, why would I make a big deal out of it? I would not. Those kids chose me, out of about 50 other male cadets, being the only African-American.

I have to wonder why his parents took him out of school when many Auburn and Lewiston residents read about the incident. Are they trying to hide something?

I did not ask for that article to be on the front page. It just so happened that the Sun Journal editors thought it deserved to be on the front page.
