TOPSHAM – Leopold “Polo” Mercier, 82, formerly of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Amenity Manor after a short illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 31, 1923, the son of Israel and Albertine Plante Mercier.

He was educated in local schools and was married to Juliette Lessard Mercier, who predeceased him.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 106.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Cecile Mercier of Auburn and Mariette Mercier of Sabattus; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Nadeau; and five brothers, Joseph, Lucien, Alphonse, Edmond and Alfred, who passed away Oct. 22.
