I write to express my very serious concerns with the tactics of those supporting yes on Question 1 in the upcoming election.
As for the signatures they obtained, many of those signatures were obtained by false pretenses in alleging that this election was about gay marriage. It has absolutely nothing to do with gay marriage. It is strictly about victims of discrimination based on one’s sexuality (homosexual or heterosexual) in the areas of housing, employment, public accommodations and the extension of credit. Nothing more! Such discrimination exists, and in today’s America it should be outlawed.
Now, apparently this phantom group is going to the parking lots of Catholic Churches and putting out fliers with two pages full of quotes taken out of context and basically alleging that if you are a faithful Catholic, you should vote yes. The flier itself is a violation of election laws in that there is no disclaimer on it as to who is putting it out.
I for one, a faithful Catholic, will be voting no on Question 1 with thousands of other faithful Catholics because we believe that discrimination is wrong.
In my former employment as police chief in Lewiston, I’ve seen and heard firsthand the victimization of homosexuals (relatives of most of all our families), and such victimization is wrong. A no vote will provide for equal treatment of all persons.
