An article published in the Sun Journal Oct. 28 about the closing of Solon Manufacturing’s Skowhegan plant concludes by quoting Peter Lammert, utilization and marketing forester for the Maine Forest Service, “With the loss of the small manufacturing plants, markets for wood have also dwindled, driving down the price of logs for foresters and landowners.” Hence, it looks like we need to find additional ways to make money and grow the state economy with the Maine woods.
North Woods Park anyone? Sure beats real estate development in terms of providing jobs, and it’s an economy all Mainers can share in.
