DENVER (AP) – George Karl returned to the bench and the Denver Nuggets looked good again, getting 23 points and 17 rebounds from Marcus Camby in a 107-68 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Carmelo Anthony had 14 points and Voshon Lenard came two assists shy of a triple-double for the Nuggets, who won their first game of the season after losses to the Spurs and Lakers.

Darius Miles had 13 points to lead Portland, which opened the season Wednesday with a four-point loss at Minnesota.

Karl, who served a two-game suspension to start the season, reassumed control of a team that didn’t look good playing for assistant Scott Brooks, not running or pushing the pace the way the Nuggets did when they closed last season 32-8.

In this game, though, things were pretty much back to normal, and it didn’t hurt that the opponent was Portland, a young team that could make a run at the worst record in the Western Conference this season.

Sebastian Telfair was no factor in this game, finishing with five points and three assists. Miles, who scored 47 against the Nuggets in last season’s final game, only got 13 shots in this one.
