Alex Bourret and the Shawinigan Cataractes officially claimed bragging rights from the Lewiston Maineiacs on Saturday.

Bourret had two goals and an assist and Benoit Mondou matched him as they led Shawinigan to a 4-2 win over Lewiston in front of 2,102 at Arena Jacques-Plante in the teams’ second and final meeting of this regular season.

Bourret, who last year led Lewiston in points, also had a crucial goal in a Shawinigan shootout win in Lewiston on Oct. 9.

Goaltender Julien Ellis, meanwhile, turned in a solid performance for the Cataractes, stopping 40 of 42 shots to earn his 10th win of the season.

I think overall we played a better game than we did (Friday night),” said Maineiacs assistant coach Ed Harding. “We only had one center-zone turnover all night. We had quite a few scoring chances and Ellis made some good stops.”

Lewiston outshot Shawinigan 42-25 in the loss, which Travis Fullerton took after giving up three goals on nine shots through 23:45. Jonathan Bernier took over in the second period after Fullerton gave up the game-winner.

“Travis did not play well tonight,” said Harding. “I’ll call a spade a spade. He needs to rise to the occasion and make a couple of what we thought should have been easy saves.”

Shawinigan got off to a quick start when Mondou beat Fullerton on the game’s first shot just 47 seconds into the game.

Taking advantage of their first power play, the Maineiacs knotted the score at one five minutes later when Marc-Andre Cliche tipped home a Jonathan Paiement shot in front of Ellis.

Shawinigan retook the lead at 9:38 when Bourret picked off the puck and went in on Fullerton, stuffing it home for his seventh of the season.

“Mondou beat Travis stick side about in the middle,” said Harding. “And Bourret’s goal was terrible. It was from a terrible angle and he didn’t deserve to score that one.”

Chad Denny once again pulled Lewiston even early in the second with a power play goal, his eighth of the year.

Bourret notched his second of the game at 3:45, giving the Cataractes a 3-2 lead and chasing Fullerton, and Mondou capped the scoring with a power play goal at 17:54 of the third period while both Brandon Roach and Cliche sat in the penalty box.

Lewiston returns to the ice Tuesday against the struggling Rimouski Oceanic.
