This is in response to information in a caption of a photo that ran Oct. 26 and a correction to that caption that was printed Oct. 27. To set the record straight, Saints Peter and Paul School was founded and built in 1923 by the Dominican Fathers from Saints Peter and Paul Church, now Basilica. Dominican Sisters from France and, eventually, local girls joined the order that taught approximately 1,700 children until the Brothers of the Sacred Heart began teaching fifth to eighth grades to the boys of the parish.

That was the space, still belonging to Saints Peter and Paul Parish, that was later leased and occupied by St. Dominic Regional High School.

In 1998, grades kindergarten to eight of Saints Peter and Paul School moved to Auburn to form the new Sacred Heart-St. Peter’s School, supported by both parishes.
