PARIS – A 38-year-old grandmother from Buckfield and her 2-year-old grandchild escaped injury Monday after the vehicle driven by the grandmother struck an embankment on Route 117 in Paris and rolled over.

Tina Sanborn was driving south on Route 117 wearing a seat belt, and her grandchild was secured in a child’s car seat in the back seat, said Paris Patrolman Ron Cole.

Cole said Sanborn had turned to check on her grandchild, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle. “The vehicle drifted off the edge of the pavement, which spun it off the road. The vehicle jetted across the northbound lane, struck an embankment, and rolled over,” Cole said.

Cole said Sanborn and the child did not appear injured at the scene but were taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for evaluation. A spokeswoman for Stephens said they were treated and released.

Route 117 was closed to traffic for about 20 minutes while the vehicle was loaded onto a flatbed truck.
