Yes on Question 5: The fifth bond question provides $12 million in funding for the Land for Maine’s Future program. Begun in 1987 with a $35 million bond, the program has protected almost 200,000 acres in Maine, guaranteeing public access and traditional uses. Without the bond, the program is essentially broke.
Yes on Question 6: With flat funding forecast by the Legislature for Maine’s higher education system, there’s great need for this $9 million investment. It includes money for capital projects at the University of Maine at Farmington and at the University of Southern Maine.
Yes on Question 7: A constitutional amendment, Question 7 allows working waterfront property to be taxed on its current use instead of at market value. The amendment gives communities an important tool in protecting commercial fishing jobs and limiting the reach of sprawl.
