PERU – Resident Dennis Thibodeau questioned selectmen Monday night on whether they had toured all the roads in town with Road Commissioner David Gammon.

Gammon said they didn’t go on all roads because he had another commitment.

Thibodeau said, “You selectmen expect too much of your road commissioner. Why didn’t you tour all the roads by yourselves? What are you going to do about these roads?”

Thibodeau lives on Holman Road, but he also said Pleasant Street road was horrible as well.

Board Chairman Andre St. Pierre said, “If we work on more roads, we need more money and taxes will go up.” St. Pierre and Selectman Norman DeRoche said they would meet Thibodeau on Holman Road on Sunday with Gammon.

The board also received a letter from Maynard Murphy, who is a summer resident on Worthley Pond, suggesting the town issue a bond, hire an engineer and a well-known contractor with proper equipment, and get the East Shore Road completed in one year. This would free the town road crew to do the other needed work in the town.

DeRoche said such a decision would be up to town voters, not the selectmen.

In the 2006 road plan projection, Gammon plans to rebuild Pleasant Street for three-quarters of a mile at an estimate of $90,000, resurface Veteran’s Street for one-quarter mile for $15,000 and resurface Ridge Road for 1.2 miles for $30,000.

St. Pierre asked for an update on the code enforcement officer meeting with several towns recently.

DeRoche said there would be more meetings, but he understood that the code enforcement officer for Hartford might be interested in working for other towns as needed.

The board also received a letter for the Department of Environmental Protection concerning the Murray Cove Campground. Lisa Brown of the Department of Health and Human Services Health Inspection Program indicated in a letter to the DEP that Murray’s Cove Campground did not meet the criteria or definition of a campground. In such case, there may be further shoreland zoning issues.

St. Pierre said the Planning Board should be dealing with the issue. Selectman Kathy Hussey said it was.
