FARMINGTON – A spate of vandalism incidents that occurred early Sunday morning in Farmington and Wilton are not believed to be related, according to both towns’ police departments Monday.

People traveling along Broadway in Farmington on Monday saw tape holding together one of the plate glass windows of the Homestead Bakery after vandals smashed it during the early morning hours Sunday, according to Sgt. Peter Barton. Also sustaining damage were the glass front doors of Shiretown Insurance at Main Street and Broadway and Reny’s on Broadway. Also, an air conditioner was damaged when it was pulled from the wall of Karkos Plumbing and Heating on Front Street. An electric meter there was also damaged.

In addition, four vehicles – two parked on Quebec Street, one on Middle Street and one on Perkins Street – had side-view mirrors pulled off, and one vehicle had its taillights broken.

As of Monday, Farmington police had no suspects but were soliciting local businesses with surveillance video equipment for copies of tapes from that period of time in hopes of identifying suspects.

Meanwhile, police in Wilton hope to charge an adult today with criminal mischief stemming from vandalism that apparently occurred around the same time as the Farmington incidents, according to Police Chief Wayne Gallant.

Vandals in Wilton sprayed cars with fire extinguishers, flipped a picnic table, rolled tires down hills, damaged playground equipment and moved ornaments from some gardens to others, Gallant said. The mischief occurred on Weld and Curve streets, according to Franklin County dispatch logs.

Anyone with information on the Farmington incidents is asked to contact investigating officer Ed Hastings or Sgt. Peter Barton at 778-6312.
