Group starts

RUMFORD – Fran Vargas of Rumford has volunteered to take over the Tobacco Support Group. She has experience with tobacco support groups, having attended a group led by Healthy Androscoggin in Lewiston.

The group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday beginning Nov. 9 at Rumford Hospital. Meetings will be held on the third floor across from room 351. For more information, contact Frank at 364-4688.

Class of ’55 to meet

RUMFORD – Stephens High School class of 1955 will have its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the River Valley Grill on Exchange Street. For more information, contact Geneva at 364-4216.

Artists showcased

RUMFORD – The Red Hill Photography Show is a special new Christmas event that will be opening in Rumford on Waldo Street. This event will feature photographers Dirk MacKnight of Andover, Barbara Smith-Baker of Weld, Tracy Virgin of Peru, Steve Eldridge, Virginia Mawhinney, Deb Stone and other area artists. The photography will be displayed until Christmas at the former location of Port-to-Port (Legere’s Hardware); between the current Port-to-Port and Red Hill Natural Foods at 230 Waldo St. The owner of the building, Jim White, has donated the space while it is between tenants.

The open house will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Any area photographers interested in the space should call Barbara at Red Hill Natural Foods at 369-9141.

President visiting

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Legion Auxiliary Unit 100 will host the State of Maine Department president, Nicky Weatherby, at its joint meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Post 100. All members are urged to attend.

Seniors plan trip

RUMFORD – The Rumford Senior Citizens offers a trip to the Cumberland County Civic Center to see the Black Watch and the Band of the Welsh Guards, with music from Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. The date of the show is 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26. Cost is $50 and sign-up should be made as soon as possible. For more information, contact the Rumford Senior Citizens at 364-4700.

Youth resources

MEXICO – The Youth Resource Team will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Teen Scene, Mexico Rec Center. Members will talk about recruitment, staffing and days and hours of operation for Teen Scene. The Teen Scene will be open following the meeting from 4 to 7 p.m.
