LIVERMORE FALLS – Voters in Livermore and Livermore Falls overwhelmingly approved seeking state money for two construction projects at the high school estimated to cost $1.1 million.

They also approved concept approval for a performing arts center by a wide margin. Unofficial results collectively tallied 968-534 on the arts center.

The state would pay about 68 percent of the construction projects plus the interest on a 10-year bond while the district picked up about 32 percent of the cost.

Residents in both towns voted collectively 1,277 yes to 222 no to approve seeking state funds to do structural, roof and sidewall replacement renovations at the high school. The project includes major internal classroom renovations and is estimated to cost $722,000.

The district’s share of the project is estimated at $228,238 paid in 10 yearly bond payments of $22,823.78.

Voters also approved collectively 1,136 yes to 368 no to seek funds for a second construction project at the high school that would address space constraints, security and code issues.

It would add two small additions with one creating a library media center on the first floor using a 1,250-square-foot addition and space that is currently the existing principal/guidance/nurse’s offices.

The existing library on the second floor of the school would be divided into two classrooms for additional students expected at the high school as children move through the school system.

The second 1,250-square-foot addition would be to the back of the building facing the football field and use some of the hall space adjacent to the gymnasium to make a front office complex. The main entrance to the building would be changed. The project includes new public bathrooms to meet code and renovating the locker rooms.

The renovations are estimated to cost $387,500 with the district responsible for paying $122,412 in 10 yearly payments of $12,241.
