The average Morning Prayer service at St. Joe’s consists of a reading, petitions, the Our Father and announcements. This time Morning Prayer was filled with song and laughter. At St. Joseph’s School in Lewiston, students learned how to do the sign language for the song “Kumbaya.” The sixth grade home room teacher, Mr. Peary, taught the signs to the lyrics. The signs represented the following words: love, God, come by here, praying, signing, and someone crying. Everybody from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade participated with enthusiasm. Since then, other Morning Prayers have had songs that have sign language accompaniments. This is a fun way to share an exciting experience that goes hand-in-hand with the learning about our faith.
