FARMINGTON – Franklin County voters were favoring overturning the state’s anti-discrimination law late Tuesday, with more than half of the towns reporting voting results.
Farmington, Jay and Wilton – three of the largest towns in Franklin County – voted to overturn the law.
Farmington, which had 2,571 voters out of 5,800 registered turn out, voted 936 yes to 595 no on Question 1, the people’s veto to reject the law that would protect people from discrimination in employment, housing, education, public accommodations and credit based on their sexual orientation.
Jay voted 892 yes to 613 no on Question 1. Jay had 1,511 voters – fewer than half of its 3,600 registered voters – turn out to vote.
Wilton voted 781 yes to 650 no to overturn the anti-discrimination law.
The town had 1,441 voters cast ballots, which is nearly half of its 3,044 registered voters.
Avon (72 yes, 66 no), Chesterville (262 yes, 167 no), Eustis (114 yes, 98 no), Industry (172 yes, 133 no), New Vineyard (190 yes, 87 no), Rangeley Plantation (36 yes, 28 no), and Sandy River Plantation (36 yes, 27 no) also rejected the law.
Coplin Plantation (20 yes, 29 no), Dallas Plantation (59 yes, 71 no), and Temple (97 yes, 115 no) all favored keeping the anti-discrimination law intact.
