SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – The San Jose Sharks activated goaltender Evgeni Nabokov from injured reserve Tuesday, creating a logjam of three talented goalies on their roster.

The Sharks also put left wing Scott Thornton on injured reserve. He has missed San Jose’s last three games with a groin injury.

Nabokov, the Sharks’ starter since 2000, injured his shoulder in a collision with teammate Christian Ehrhoff on Oct. 21, missing the next seven games.

Backup Vesa Toskala then injured his groin in a game against Dallas on Oct. 26, returning just last weekend.

In their absence, rookie Nolan Schaefer made his NHL debut and set a franchise record by winning his first five starts while posting a 143:21 scoreless streak.

He is 5-1-0 with one shutout, a 1.94 goals-against average and a 91.6 save percentage.

Nabokov is 3-2-1 with a 3.52 GAA and an 86.6 save percentage.
