AUBURN – St. Peter and Sacred Heart School held a variety of fund-raisers during September and October to benefit the Catholic schools destroyed by Katrina and Rita.
The students held a Read-A-Thon and sought pledges for their daily free reading. That contributed $625 to the cause.
They staged a Dress Down Week in which they had to pay $1 a day for the privilege of not wearing their uniform. That earned $567. A grandmother and her grandchildren baked 180 cupcakes and sold them to students, raising $124.
Finally, freeze pops were sold on a Friday afternoon to the student body. This capped the student effort by raising $66.
The total earned by the students was $1,402, which was sent to the Diocese. Diocese officials sent a check for the amount all the Maine Catholic schools contributed to Catholic schools in the Gulf. The total combined efforts in the student-to-student campaign was $14,515.71.
