ORONO – University of Maine men’s basketball coach Ted Woodward announced Wednesday his program has received National Letters of Intent from Jordan Cook and Sean Costigan. Both will join the Black Bears in the fall of 2006 as freshmen.

Cook is 6-10 center who led Hampden Academy to the Class A state title in 2005 as a junior. He led the Big East Conference in scoring with 18.4 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per contest.

Costigan is a 6-6 forward who can shoot from outside. He led Cheverus to the Western Maine Class A final a year ago, averaging 12 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding and in blocked shots.

Kix resigns as hockey coach

ORONO – University of Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix has resigned her position to pursue other opportunities. Kix, who led the Black Bears to a share of the America East title in 2005 and was named America East Coach of the Year, has also resigned her position as senior women’s administrator.

Kix finishes her career as Maine’s all-time winningest coach, with a record of 174-109-5 in 15 seasons. She led Maine to a school-record 17 wins in 1996 when the team finished 18th in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. The Black Bears have won 10 or more games in 11 of her 15 seasons and 12 or more games in each of the past four years.
