FARMINGTON – For the second time in less than a week, police were at Howard’s Rexall Pharmacy on Main Street and arrested a woman on drug charges around noon Monday.

Bridgette Gervais, 26, of Jay was arrested after she admitted giving pharmacist Rob Witt a forged prescription for Percocet, Farmington police officer Brian Ross said.

Asked what immediately alerted him to the bogus prescription Witt said, “It’s what I do.”

The handwriting was not the doctor’s, it was an odd quantity and there was a refill on it, which is illegal for that class of drugs, he said. He showed it to his brother, Jim Witt, and a pharmacy clerk who both agreed it looked suspicious.

Percocet is a narcotic pain reliever which contains oxycodone, a generic form of OxyContin.

Gervais was waiting for the prescription to be filled when officer Ross arrived at the store.

Ross escorted Gervais to her vehicle parked on Main Street where he searched it for drugs and paraphernalia. Slicing his thumb, Ross found a razor blade with white powder on it, but Gervais did not reveal why she had it or what the white powder might be. Ross also found a pill crusher in Gervais’ purse also with white powder residue.

She was taken to Franklin County Jail and booked on a charge of attempting to acquire prescription drugs by deception, a class C felony, and forgery. She is being held on $1,500 cash bail, according to Ross.

Police also responded to the pharmacy Friday evening when a man threatened to blow the store up with explosives if the pharmacist did not give him oxycodone.

When pharmacist Rob Witt rebuffed him, the man left the store and went to Wal-Mart where he threatened a pharmacist there with a gun and got away with an undisclosed amount of oxycodone.

Farmington Sgt. Peter Barton said Monday that officers have leads on the robber who is described as being between 18 and 23 years old, white, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall with no facial hair. He was wearing jeans and a blue plaid shirt at the time. Anyone with information is asked to call Farmington police at 778-6312.
