LEWISTON – Just 20 months after opening in the city’s southern gateway, Andover College plans to expand.

Details of the expansion – its size and location – are scheduled to be announced today in an 11 a.m. press conference at the school.

Work on the Southern Gateway, at the entrance to lower Lisbon Street, has been going on since the school opened in March 2004.

Northeast Bank has moved in around the corner, Oxford Networks has opened its headquarters next door, and a new $4 million parking garage opened earlier this month on the other side.

Although flanked on the right and left, the school has found a way to expand its 475 Lisbon St. site, said Lincoln Jeffers, Lewiston’s deputy director of economic and community development.

Andover has enrolled more students than originally expected, signing up 70 for its first-ever orientation.

It now has about 400 students, though it was designed for 250.
