LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) – A Youth Football coach has been charged with simple assault after he got into a fight with another coach of the same team during a game.
Police said William Goetschius of Stratham became upset when the other Exeter Seahawks coach, Richard Sousa, his neighbor, removed Goetschius’ son from the game and replaced him with his own son.
Goetschius said Sousa humiliated his son, so he confronted him on the sideline and grabbed his jacket. He said Sousa then punched him.
There has been no comment from Sousa. No charges have been filed against him.
“Unfortunately, in the last few years, we’ve seen across the country instances where the immaturity of coaches get the better of them,” Londonderry Capt. Bill Hart said.
Both have been suspended by the league.
“If it happened as witnesses said, it’s an embarrassment not only to these gentlemen, but to the children playing football as well,” Hart said.
Goetschius will be arraigned on Dec. 20 on a charge of simple assault.
