LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday with causing the death of a pregnant woman killed when he lost control of his car while allegedly drag racing.
On Nov. 3, prosecutors say, 18-year-old Carlos Rodriguez, of Lowell, was racing another car at more than 90 mph on the Lowell Connector when his Acura Integra slammed into the median and went airborne.
It landed on a Toyota Camry and struck a Subaru Legacy, whose driver, 31-year-old Deborah Hornberger, of Leominster, was killed.
Rodriguez, who remains hospitalized with serious injuries, was charged with manslaughter, drag racing, speeding and other charges, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said.
The driver of the car who was apparently racing Rodriguez, Angel Nieves, 24, was cited for operating on a suspended license, operating to endanger, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and speeding.
