BANGOR – WABI TV Channel 5, based in Bangor, will provide live television coverage of this year’s Class A, B and C High School Football State Championships at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The games will also be available on a pay-per-view basis to viewers outside of WABI’s coverage area through the station’s Internet streaming audio-video service. That service is available at www.watchmainesports.com.
The schedule begins with Mt. Blue vs. Bonny Eagle at 11 a.m., followed by Brewer vs. York at 2:30 p.m. and Foxcroft Academy vs. Lisbon at 6 p.m. This is the first time in history that all three MPA High School State Championship games will air on live television, and the first time that any Maine high school football game can be viewed worldwide via the Internet.
Maine Maritime picked to repeat
CASTINE – Maine Maritime was chosen by the league’s coaches as the North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball preseason favorite. The Mariners, led by fourth year head coach Craig Dagan, received nine first place votes and 164 points in the NAC women’s basketball preseason poll.
Maine Maritime returns all five starters, including NAC Player of the Year Alyssa Burns. The combination guard/forward finished third in NAC scoring (16.2 points per game), rebounding (9.3 per contest) and steals (2.8 per game) last season while leading the Mariners to their first NAC title since 2002.
The University of Maine at Farmington tied Maine Maritime with a 15-2 East Division mark, but fell to the Mariners in the NAC Championship game. The Beavers return four starters led by 2004-05 first-team all-conference selections Kari Simpson and Karen Sirois. UMF received four first-place votes and 159 points overall.
Dates changed for Dead River Classic
ORONO – University of Maine women’s basketball head coach Ann McInerney has announced a date change for the 2005 Dead River Classic, to be held next week at Alfond Arena.
The Maine-Kennesaw State game, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 24, has been moved to Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
Tickets for Thursday’s game will be honored at Friday night’s contest. The Dartmouth-Kennesaw State game that was scheduled for Friday will not be played. Maine’s contest with Dartmouth is still scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m at Alfond Arena.
