WELD – Clifford E. Jackson, 74, of Weld, died early Wednesday evening, Nov. 15, at his home in Weld.
He was born May 7, 1931, in Weld, a son of Erwin and Thursia (White) Jackson. He attended schools in Weld, Dixfield and Carthage.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Clifford served during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 as a mechanic on B-52 bombers in the 29th Air Division.
On Oct. 31, 1954, he married Phyllis Whitney in Carthage.
Clifford worked most of his life as a logger and admitted that during his life he “kissed at least one tree.”
He was a member of the Weld American Legion, and when he was a younger man belonged to the Grange. He enjoyed playing cribbage, was self-taught on the computer, and also enjoyed watching sports on TV, as well as hunting in his youth.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 54 years of Weld; daughters, Sandra Berry and her companion, Joseph Knox, of Weld, Lavorne Jackson of Rumford, Drucilla Mitchell and her companion, Ronald Dickey, of Perry, Fla., and Crystal Fitch and her husband, Bryan, of Wilton; brothers, Danny Jackson of Farmington, and Donald Jackson and his wife, Joan, of Jay; sister, Priscilla Marquis and her husband, Bob, of St. Cloud, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Sherry; son, Jay; and a sister, Elizabeth Wacome.
