There is some talk that the men who were planning to run a skating rink in Lewiston will, now that the City Government has refused them a permit, go over to Auburn and erect a first class rink. The clay bank has been mentioned as a desirable location, being on the car line and where it would not disturb many people, it is thought. “I hope that rink will be located in Auburn,” said a citizen last evening. “I believe it would be a good thing and I am heartily in favor of having it over here.”

Historic Lakewood Theater in Madison, the nations oldest summer theater, has been auctioned off for $66,000 to a non-profit group formed solely to ensure its continued operation as a theater. The package includes the 1,000-seat theater, built in 1901, seven cottages and several other buildings. Friends of Lakewood also won in spirited bidding for a 550-picture collection of those who have performed at the theater over the years – everyone from Humphrey Bogart and Groucho Marx to John Travolta. A roar of approval went up from the crowd of about 400 gathered in the theater when Friends of Lakewood, with a bid of $6,000, took the collection. The photos had decorated the theater lobby and the group felt strongly that they should remain there.
