LEWISTON – A $25,000 grant from the JTG Foundation will establish an American Cancer Society Resource Center in St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

The resource center will be a first in Maine, providing patients, families, caregivers and the public with up-to-date medical information about cancer, American Cancer Society programs and community resources.

Trained volunteers, many of them cancer survivors, will staff it. Patients will be able to attend Cancer Society education programs, obtain wigs and borrow cancer-related publications at the center, all at no charge.

The center will be equipped with a computer with Internet access to the Cancer Society’s information databases. As the first resource center in Maine, it will serve the entire region.

The JTG Foundation is a private Maine foundation with interest in enhancing mental health services, improving the care of those suffering from cancer, enhancing the lives of the elderly, providing for unmet needs of low-income or otherwise disadvantaged children and enhancing community services.
