RANGELEY – A Lewiston man is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court next month for allegedly shooting a rifle at a birdhouse several times in a residential area.

Rangeley police charged Charles A. Medeiros, 46, Wednesday with discharging a firearm near a dwelling, Rangeley Police Chief Phil Weymouth said Thursday.

Police responded to a complaint Wednesday afternoon on Allen Street and found Medeiros passed out on a mattress in an apartment at Saddleback View Apartments in Rangeley village, Weymouth said.

Medeiros admitted to being intoxicated and opening a screen door and shooting at the birdhouse from the deck, which was across the yard within 100 feet away, the chief said.

The area is surrounded by homes, he said.

Weymouth said he expects the charge to be upgraded to felony reckless conduct with a firearm.

Medeiros has a date of Wednesday, Dec. 28, to appear in 12th District Court.
