MEXICO – Mary M. Gallant, 81, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Nov. 19 from her home at Worthley Avenue in Mexico, where she lived most of her life.
She fought a short battle against cancer with amazing faith, courage, and a great sense of humor. Mary was considered the matriarch of a large extended family who loved her dearly.
She was born on May 29, 1924, the daughter of James and Yvonne (Hamann) Gallant. She attended Mexico schools, graduating from Mexico High School in 1942.
She worked for Diamond Match in Peru for several years. She then went to work for Oxford Paper Co. of Rumford, working in the payroll department until her retirement from Boise Cascade in 1981, with more than 30 years of service.
She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico, where she once was an active member in the St. Theresa’s Guild, and the Children of Mary. She was a volunteer for the church. She belonged to the Dixfield Neighborly Seniors.
Her favorite passion was bingo. She also enjoyed going out to eat, Sunday rides and going to camp with members of her extended family.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving sisters and brothers.
Surviving are sisters, Beatrice McInnis of Rumford, Anita Coulombe of Rumford, Doris McInnis and husband, Bernard, of Dixfield; brothers, Edgar Gallant and wife, Janice, of Rumford, and Arthur T. Gallant and wife, Ruth, of Saco; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She is now at home with the Lord; her parents; sisters, Yvonne Gallant and Jeanette Lamontagne; and brother, Joseph Gallant.
