RUMFORD – Leona M. West, 95, died Monday, Nov. 21, at her residence. She lived on the South Rumford Road in Rumford.
Born in Stanhope, Quebec, on Oct. 19, 1910, she was a daughter of Alfred and Fabiola (Cote) Laperle. She attended schools in Canada. She worked with husband as a bookkeeper on the family farm.
She was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Church in Rumford. She was also a member of the Jackson Silver Post 68, American Legion Auxiliary, The Rumford Extension and the Ladies of St. Anne.
She was married in Rumford, on June 8, 1936, to the Frank West who died in Rumford on Dec. 7, 1977.
Survivors include two sons, Norman West of South Rumford, and Ray West and his wife, Dottie, of South Rumford; a daughter, Janette Blouin and her husband, Leo, of South Rumford; two brothers, Delma Laperle and his wife, Dodie, of Gray, and Roma Laperle of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Carol Jones and her husband, Trevor, of Gorham, David Blouin of South Rumford, Becky West of South Rumford, Chris West and his wife, Jennifer, of Sanford, Fla.; and great-grandsons, Collin and Aaron Jones of Gorham.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Elodia Laperle, Rhea Laperle, Donia Laperle; and two brothers Donat and Alva Laperle.
