PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Three people were indicted in the killing of a 19-year-old Providence woman last summer, the state attorney general’s office announced on Monday.

A statewide grand jury today charged Tawanna Sampson, 29; Shonda Northup, 25; and Shea Cook, 21, each with one count of murder in the July 26 death of Stacy Ann Brissett, whose body was found partially submerged in the Yantic River in Norwich, Conn., the following day. Each faces other charges in connection with the crime.

The three were the sisters and cousin of Brissett’s boyfriend, Dwayne A. Sampson, who was shot to death June 19, according to police. Police say the three suspected Brissett of setting up Sampson’s murder.

State Police Maj. Steven O’Donnell has said a witness, identified only as “Jane Doe,” told police that Sampson, Northup and Cook drove Brissett in a van to Narragansett Indian tribal lands in Charlestown, where Northup shot Brissett three times.

O’Donnell has said the defendants put Brissett back in the van and headed to Connecticut. When Brissett began moaning, Northup allegedly strangled her. The three then dumped her body in Norwich, O’Donnell has said.

The three are being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions. They’re scheduled to be arraigned next Monday in Washington County Superior Court.
