BETHEL – The Oxford County Democrats met Nov. 17 at Telstar Regional High School for a potluck supper and business meeting.

County Chairwoman Cathy Newell highlighted the activities for the past months, including events attended by Gov. John Baldacci, Rep. Mike Michaud and Attorney General Steve Rowe, as well as the fairs and the business expos in Rumford and South Paris.

Treasurer Mike Broderick reported on the committee’s financial status. Broderick, who is chairman of the Maine Democratic Party’s Platform Committee, described the work to date and the schedule of meetings that will precede the 2006 convention on June 2 and 3 in Augusta.

Wayne Gallant of Rumford, the Wilton police chief, announced his candidacy for sheriff in the 2006 election. Oxford County Register of Deeds Jane Rich said she’ll seek re-election. Diane Russell reported on the Maine Won’t Discriminate campaign in Oxford County, chaired by Mike Newsom of Paris.

Torvic Vadarmis of Bangor, field director for the Maine Democrats in a region including Oxford County, spoke about the 2006 caucus meetings, which will be Sunday, Feb. 26. Caucus attendees have been secured for most Oxford County towns.

Susan Moore said Michaud will attend the Oxford County Committee’s holiday party and supper on Dec. 15 at the Rumford Eagles Hall.
