LIVERMORE – Selectmen will contract for the replacement of the Strickland Ferry Road culvert after deciding highway foreman Burt Bryant does not have time to do it and get trucks ready for winter.

Bryant also has been busy this fall dealing with problems from heavy rainfall.

Selectmen think the culvert, which they consider a potential safety problem, can be replaced for $1,000 to $1,200.

“A thousand dollars isn’t going to sound like a lot if someone goes through” the culvert, Town Administrator Kurt Schaub said during the board’s meeting Monday.

In other business, selectmen:

• Were told that a Route 4 business has been asked to remove a commercial sale display and sale signs until it gets a commercial-use permit from the Planning Board.

• Accepted a refund of about $4,000 from Community Emergency Services Inc., the ambulance service operated by Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. This is the final year the town will get a refund under a program that gives member towns a refund when there are surpluses, but also responsibility to pay a share of any deficit.

Under the new contract, the amount for services is fixed and there will be no future refunds or liabilities, according to Schaub.

The board also accepted the resignation of Planning Board member Sue Benoit, saying her dedication will be missed by the town. Benoit, a member of the board since 1998, is its secretary.

Selectmen urge any resident with an interest in serving on the board to contact the town office at 897-3207 or Planning Board Chairman Jerry Williams at 897-4463.
