LEWISTON – Police on Wednesday were still searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck a 13-year-old boy the night before on Lisbon Street.

Justin Chiaravelotti of Lewiston was riding his bike about 5:45 p.m. when he was struck and thrown onto the windshield of the vehicle, police said. The teen was treated at Central Maine Medical Center for facial injuries and later released, according to his mother. Chiaravelotti was expected to continue care with an oral surgeon as he recovers from his injuries, according to Judy Chiaravelotti, the boy’s mother.

Police who responded to the crash scene searched for the driver, who had fled the scene. The vehicle was not found. Investigators believe it may have sustained a smashed windshield as a result of the crash.

On Wednesday, investigators were still speaking with potential witnesses about the crash. A description of the vehicle that struck Chiaravelotti was not available. The boy’s mother said her son was unable to provide details.

“He has no idea,” she said.

Police were asking that anyone with information about the accident phone them at 784-6421. They were particularly interested in hearing from nearby business owners, passing motorists who may have witnessed the hit and run, or anyone with personal information about the driver who struck Chiaravelotti.
