PORTLAND – Jane R. Shute, 85, of Portland, died on Monday, Nov. 21, at Seaside Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1920, in Auburn, to the late Lloyd and Helen Rand Rafnell. She attended Edward Little High School.
She married her late husband, Elden “Denny” Shute, in 1940. After her husband’s retirement from his radio station, WKTJ – Farmington, and from the state Senate in Augusta, they both attended the School of Ministry at Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Fla. They made their home in Ocala, Fla., for 11 years, until her husband’s death in 1997.
Jane returned to Maine to be near her family, residing in Kittery for a time and most recently in Portland.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Kinsman; four grandchildren, Richard Shute, Valerie Davis, Jessica Kinsman and Daron Kinsman; three great-grandsons, Karoman and Nevin Davis and Benjamin Shute; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Denny; brother, Doc; and son, Gary.
