Peggy Whirley (Sun Journal, Nov 17) has joined many other people here in Maine who want to know why property taxes are so high.
First the coast; now the trend has moved a little more north into Auburn, and very soon up to Bangor (now that there are the slots).
To really get an answer, a person has to look at who the Maine people put in charge of the state. State officials no longer work for us; they aren’t doing their best to provide jobs, better schools and such.
Even though taxes in the state have gone up, and even though we allowed Megabucks and Powerball to come into our state, it seems less and less is being done for the real Maine people.
Isn’t it time we look at who is spending our money? And why have they failed us as leaders?
