PHOENIX – Peter Woodfork followed Josh Byrnes from the Boston Red Sox and was hired Wednesday as Byrnes’ assistant general manager with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Woodfork, 29, was director of baseball operations/assistant director of player development with the Red Sox for the past three seasons.

He rejoins Byrnes, the Red Sox assistant general manager who replaced Joe Garagiola Jr. as Arizona’s general manager after the season.

Woodfork holds a degree in psychology from Harvard, where he was a four-year starter for the Crimson baseball team. He worked two years in the labor relations department of the commissioner’s office before joining the Red Sox.
